Natalie Gonzalez

Natalie Gonzalez and her dog

Even in her last precious days, Natalie Gonzalez read Sierra Club’s magazine, Sierra. “Where’s the latest issue? That’s the one I want,” she would say to her husband, Danny, who would bring her stacks of her beloved magazine.

Natalie passed away on Dec. 17, 2022. Although, as Danny says, she can no longer speak for herself, she still very much has a voice in protecting the planet through her $1.4 million legacy gift.

Natalie Gonzalez“She didn’t know how to do it herself, so this money is her way of saying, ‘Here, take this money, Sierra Club, and do it — save the planet,’” Danny says.

A physician who cared for high-risk babies, Natalie naturally saved vulnerable people and places. She also loved adventure and sailing the seas with Danny, her husband of 47 years. All those pursuits coalesced and led her to support Sierra Club.

“She was such a strong, independent woman,” Danny says. “She saw those qualities of strength in Sierra Club.”

Natalie GonzalezNatalie’s unrestricted legacy gift undoubtedly strengthens our movement to ensure future generations inherit a livable and thriving planet. In turn, Natalie’s trust inspires us to forge ahead.

“This money, it was an extension of her voice,” Danny says. “She knew Sierra Club would do something with it in her name that would make a difference.”
